According to legend, St. Piran washed up on these shores after being cast into the sea from Ireland, and here he built a Christian oratory. The ruins of this 6th-century oratory, known as the ‘lost church,’ are still preserved in the sand dunes, offering a unique historical insight into the area. For those interested in Cornwall’s rich heritage, the Perranzabuloe Museum is a must-visit, showcasing the village’s social and industrial history, including its mining past and the early origins of surfing in the UK.
